columbus kids: ready, set, learn
Columbus Kids is an initiative of the United Way of Central Ohio that aims for every child to enter kindergarten ready to succeed.
To this end, Columbus Kids offers free Learning Checkups to all children 2 - 4 years of age in the Columbus City School district. CPO hires and supports Coordinators for the initiative. The Coordinators locate and recruit children to participate in the project who are not enrolled in an early learning program or in a home provider setting, with a focus on CPO children.
After recruitment, the Coordinators assist parents in completing the assessment tools. Coordinators maintain regular contact with parents to conduct follow-up screenings every 6 months until children enter kindergarten. Additional case management and referral services are offered to families whose children are not on-target develop mentally.
